Brad, great post! I think a lot of people, especially companies get hung up on specific sites, like Twitter or Facebook. Truth is, the hot site of the moment will inevitably change, but how people communicate with each other using them will remain pretty constant. I think we're at a tipping point for sure -- companies are taking notice that the consumer is no longer an idle watcher - meant for bombarding with a one size fits all message. Consumers want to be acknowledged as individuals - with their concerns/needs met. Some companies are realizing this sooner rather than later, but still very few are actually acting on this realization. It's interesting to watch and the space changes from day to day, but overall, it's exciting to be part of.

Thanks for the comment, Scott. Glad to see some of Dave's traffic coming my way. He's great.

I'm particularly excited about the online/offline migration that the social Web can enable. Seems that every company with a retail presence should be thinking about the potential to give online fans a reason to visit them offline. If done the right way and if a company offers value, I think there's a lot more to be done there. Overlay the mobile environment, and it becomes a powerful brand proposition.

Hi Brad, came across your post via David Mullen. Great stuff here and in particular #6 really caught my attention. I think a lot more companies will begin to dial-in social media into their marketing mix as they realize the potential behind utilizing the Web to bridge offline opportunities and connections. Getting the higher-ups to understand that advantage will help shift a lot of folks that previously have been tentative to get going.

Look forward to following your posts here, cheers.
